Basic how-to for job postings Other questions for job postings

Resources for paid job posters (SF/NY/LA)

How long after I submit a job post will it appear on the site?

Your ad will appear in the public listings approximately 10-20 minutes after you publish it.

To see your post, go to the category for your job. You may need to REFRESH or RELOAD the page if your job does not appear in your browser --- the refresh/reload option is usually located in the bar at the top of your browser.

Any special consideration for recruiters?

It's a tough world out there and craigslist is trying to help, in our own way. In the interest of good relations, we have a few basic guidelines that must be followed by recruiters who post jobs:

  • Please identify yourself and make sure you include this information within your posting.
  • No resume fishing, no bait and switch, and no other dishonest or misleading tactics. We're here to help each other out!
  • Please do not post in the resumes category -- direct principals only.
Can I post a job fair on craigslist?

No, craigslist does not permit job fair or open house postings at this time.

Can I include a link in my post to our organization's job page?

That's fine with us, as long as the link does not lead to a list of all jobs available in your organization. You can link to your home page, or to a page where folks can apply to the same job you have advertised on craigslist.

Can I add HTML tags or URLs in my posting?

Yes, but please use HTML sparingly. We don't try to wrap HTML around your URLs if we see HTML tags including <a>, <li>, <p>. We just pass through your HTML unchanged.

Please use only the HTML code that you would use in the <body> of a document, no <title> or anything like that. Also, we can't support JavaScript, Flash, applets or other dynamic content.

Check the list of supported HTML tags and attributes for more details.

* Note: If you use HTML in any part of your posting you must use it throughout the entire body of your posting.

I have three positions to fill -- can I post one ad for all of them?

We ask that you include only one job description per job post. As a rule of thumb, job titles should be singular, not plural.

Do you accept credit cards?

Yes, you can use American Express, MasterCard, or Visa. In most cases, you will enter your credit card information at the end of the posting process, and your card will be charged immediately.

If you use a craigslist account to post your job, we will send you an invoice and you can use your credit card to pay your invoice. Once you receive your invoice, go to our online invoice payment form. You'll need the invoice number and the original billing email address (this information is on your email or paper invoice). You can use this form to pay for any old invoices that you may have as well.

If you have any questions, please contact us:

A note about security:

Our online credit card payment forms have been encrypted using industry standard 128-bit Secure Socket Layer encryption. Our systems relay your credit card information (using the same encryption method) to Secure-Bank, which charges your account. We do not keep any of your credit card information on our servers.

What kind of job posts do you not accept?

Our policies prohibit the following types of listings on our site:

Posting of any franchise, pyramid scheme, multi-level marketing, "club membership", distributorship or sales representative agency arrangement or other business opportunity which requires an up front or periodic payment, requires recruitment of other members, sub-distributors or sub-agents, or pays commissions only (except for postings that make clear that the available job pays commission only and clearly describes the product or service that the job seeker would be selling, in which case such postings may be permissible).

Does craigslist charge for posts that advertise focus group opportunities?

We figure that focus group opportunities are jobs, and should be submitted under our et cetera jobs category. We hear from focus group companies that these postings are very effective.

Can I post a job to all of craigslist's sites?

We ask that you post the job in the general geographic location of where the position is located. The idea is that if someone is looking for a position in Seattle, they would visit the craigslist Seattle site.

This local community approach is what craigslist is all about.

If location is not relevant to the position, please choose just one city site.
